The Western Coast of Africa is well known for its big surf, cold water and sharks but that hasn’t deterred two intrepid Paddleboarders, Jono Rosslind and Greg Bertish as the clip below shows. The two friends paddle out to tackle an ominous looking slab break and find out it was bigger, heavier and far bumpier than either of them were expecting!
Even more inspiring than seeing the friends tackle the choppy waves and then dismissing the beatings with a smile, is that Greg Bertish underwent major open heart surgery back in 2001, following a bacterial infection that caused his heart to swell massively and destroyed his aortic valve. Even though this was extremely traumatic both physically, mentally and potentially life threatening, it hasn’t slowed Greg down at all and hasn’t held him back.
It is hard to comprehend some of the beatings the lads endured in the double overhead video especially seeing one of the boards being retrieved from the shore edge and against the rocks! The clip is taken from the movie “The Core”, produced by Coreban and showcasing African waves and the talent of the sponsored team. Enjoy the clip below and feel free to let us know what you think of the cold-water spankings the boys suffer!
