The 2014 Hurley Pro winner has been named, and Jordy Smith has conquered the competition this year in California. We previously reported the conditions looked good to go, and then during this part of the ASP World Tour title race we saw windy conditions with five-foot wave ramps.
Kelly Slater commented on Jordy Smith’s performance during this event, and made it clear Smith has been the “surfer of the event”, although it’s also been very tight.
John John Florence and Jordy Smith battled it out in the Hurley Pro final. Smith started with some great tail slides and powerful carves to set a 9.33 benchmark, and then Florence answered well but it ended up not being enough to take the title.
Both surfers responded during the final to the excitement of onlookers, and this left the judges having to choose a winner for the 2014 Hurley Pro after the buzzer. This was the 4th Dream Tour victory for Jordy Smith.
One thing is for sure, Jordy Smith now feels “unbelievable” after taking on one of the best surfers in the world and winning.
We’ve included some video footage below from yesterday, which features Jordy Smith in the surf during this Hurley Pro event.
