Although still in nappies and far too small to even be labelled a grommet, Prince George, the son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate and William, has been presented with his first ever surfboard. A massive moment in any aspiring shredders life, but unfortunately Prince George was not there to collect the board personally. The family are currently on a tour of Australia and the Royal couple were presented with the surfboard on a visit to the Surf beach of Manly in New South Wales.
Matt Wright of Bennett Surfboards shaped the board, which was displayed in a lovely wooden stand and features an image of the local beach with the inscription “Greetings from Manly”. The gift from the Mayor of Manly, Jean Hay, is said to be worth over £2000 and came with the promise of Surf lessons for the young Prince, with Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew and Barton Lynch, both former world champions from Manly.
We don’t know if the board will ever see the ocean or if it will be stuffed in the Royal vaults along with the many other gifts George has received on this visit, but it is certainly a unique gift and we reckon the young Royal is a lucky boy and could well be a future ripper. We are not quite sure where George’s local beach is, but we feel sorry for the locals when he turns up and paddles out with his instant crowd of Bodyguards in future!
