The Association of Professional Bodyboarders have announced their plans for 2015 with the release of a tentative schedule and there are some big surprises contained within. The 2015 APB Bodyboard World Tour will visit 13 destinations over the course of the year and is set to get underway on May the 8th at Arica in Chile, and wraps up at the Encanto Pro in Puerto Rica on November 4th.
One of the biggest shocks on the schedule, is the omission of an event at Pipeline, or indeed Hawaii, although the APB are saying they expect to see the Pipe challenge reinstated for 2016. However, as one event is mothballed, another rises from the ashes and we are pleased with the announcement that the Tour will be heading back to Teahupoo on October the 1st, the first time the Pro Bodyboard Tour has visited since 2003.
It is also with interest we note the inclusion of some new stops, including the Nazare Pro in mid September and a visit to The Maldives in early August to surf at Towns in Male. The Womens World Tour will shadow the Men’s events at 9 of the stops, missing out Arica, Shark Island, Chopes and The Maldives. The Drop Knee Tour will visit 6 stops in total.
For the first time, 2015 will also see the inclusion of a Pro Junior World Tour and the youngsters will be showcasing their skills at 7 events. There is no announcement about sponsors for the various stops and we are left wondering how secure these planned events are and how “tentative” the program for 2015 is. Fingers crossed the APB can pull it out the bag and lay on a great spectacle for us all to enjoy, the destinations chosen certainly appeal. Let us know your thoughts on the inclusion of Nazare and The Maldives and how disappointed are you that we won’t see the Pro’s at pipe in 2015?
