The latest product we have had in for review is a Mini Stormproof Phone Case from Aquapac and it has been a blast putting it through its paces. The Aquapac Mini Stormproof is a generic phone case, but importantly for me, it accommodates the iPhone 5 as well as all previous iPhone models. Whilst not guaranteed for full submersion, this lightweight and versatile case will keep your phone protected in the most brutal of conditions.
We were sent the orange Stormproof case to review, and I have to say I love the colour, it is not too garish and in your face, but is bright enough to stand out and be noticed, even in the worst of conditions. Aquapac also offer the case in Cool Grey as a second colour option.
The case is made from 70D PU-Coated Ripstop Nylon and all the seams are welded to keep the elements out. The material is as tough as old boots and try as I may, I cannot tear or damage the material with my bare hands. With the phone secured in the case and then sealed, the Mini Stormproof scores a UPX score of 6, and is guaranteed to resist a blast from a fire hose at 3 metres!
The case seal is an ingenious design and is used on a lot of Aquapac equipment. Once you have placed your phone inside the case you simply roll the top seal over on itself three times and then secure with a micro buckle. This is an extremely tight and assured method of sealing the Mini Stormproof and it will be able to resist the worst the weather can throw at you.
Not only will your phone remain dry and safe, it remains fully functional and you can still make calls, swipe the screen and take pictures through the clear window set in the Ripstop Nylon. All the buttons are accessible and easy to use though the case.
I was at a bit of a loss as to how best to put the Mini Stormproof through its paces, and eventually decided that attaching it just above the back wheel of my mountain bike and setting off on an hour-long blast through the local woods would be a good test. With no mudguards fitted and the phone hanging inches above the wheel I set off!
During the ride, I aimed for every puddle and every swampy bit of track I could find and subjected the case and more importantly my phone to an hour of serious abuse. By the end of the jaunt, the case was thick with mud and water and I was also left wishing my shorts were made from waterproof Ripstop Nylon!
Pleasingly when I gingerly opened the case to retrieve my phone there was not one bit of mud or water on it and the Mini Stormproof had delivered exactly what had been promised – ultimate protection in extreme conditions.
On returning home, I simply washed the case off with the hosepipe and rubbed off the mud and dirt with my hand, and after an hour in the sun, the case was looking as good as new and ready for the next adventure.
The Mini Stormproof Phone Case is available to buy direct from Aquapac for £16, with a £3 delivery charge to the UK and is worth every penny of the money. Whilst not fully submersible and not suitable for Surfing, there isn’t a Surfer I know, that doesn’t participate in some other form of adrenaline chasing or outdoor adventuring and this is the case for those on land escapades.
Aquapac also offer a 5-Year warranty on all their products and if for any reason you change your mind or order a wrong size, you are able to send the product back, using the Aquapac No Hassle Return service.
