2015 will see the ASP change its name to The WSL – The World Surf League. Kierron Perrow, the ASP CEO, explains that the name change is intended to create a better understanding of the Professional Surf Tour and will serve the athletes, fans and partners better into the future.
There seems to be a general consensus that this move is for the best and has the backing of professional surfers such as Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore and Gabriel Medina. It is certainly true that the last couple of years have seen a huge leap forward in the quality of live broadcasts and the input from current tour sponsors Samsung has definitely helped and the planned name change has certainly been met with a general positivity.
