If you aren’t familiar with the name Andrew Cotton and didn’t see his epic ride at Nazare on a gigantic wave earlier this year, then you really have had you’re head well and truly buried in the sand. Andy, caught the watching worlds eye when he took on the frightful wave and is now the most famous plumber in the UK, who also sometimes works as a lifeguard.
It has been a roller coaster year for Andrew, following his exploits in Nazare he went on to find himself entered into the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards and for weeks after that wave in Portugal was the most sought after Surfer for an interview. Now the dust has settled down, Red Bull have released the latest edition of “This and Nothing else” and this time it features a behind the scenes insight into the softly spoken Andrews life.
Catching up with him on his home turf of Croyde in North devon, the video below reveals how passionate Andrew is about his young family, his supportive wife and his love of Surfing any kind of wave going, although he definitely seems to get more of a thrill, the bigger it is. Andrew also reveals how his own and extended family support him not only with his Surfing but with his ongoing housebuilding project back in North Devon.
Andy also talks quite candidly about that session at Nazare, how he feels when he is out there, what it feels like to be involved in a wipeout there and we even get a look at his very unique Surfboard. One thing that is very clear, is that Andrew is extremely driven to ride big waves to the very best of his ability and it is that passion mixed with his humble persona that makes us believe the best is yet to come from Mr Cotton.
