Best River Bore for Surfing is Kampur River, Video reveals

Bodyboard News Surf Video By Mat Chapman / March 9, 2014

You may have noticed that here at Surf-Report, we love a river or tidal bore and one that gets us frothing every time is the Bono bore that is found on the Kampur river in Sumatra, Indonesia. The first time we heard about this unbelievable river bore was when Rip Curl featured it in their 2011 Live The Search video, with Tom Curren and friends enjoying the pleasures of the Seven Ghosts. In fact the first time we saw the shot of the 7 barrelling waves lined up in perfection we thought there was some video trickery at play.

The Seven Ghosts is a phenomenal bore that overshadows any other we have seen. With 10 foot faces occasionally possible and the longest ride currently standing at over an hour, this is one bore that is well and truly on the Surf-Report must do list.

It is with great delight that we can bring you a 25-minute long documentary called Water From the Moon about a gang of friends that make the journey to tackle the awesome wave. The film follows a group of lucky pro Surfers and Bodyboarders as they travel to the river and experience the spectacular occurrence and as well as some great surfing the film is pretty educational too.

Make sure you find the time to be able to sit down and appreciate this jaw dropping wave and be prepared to watch probably the longest ridden wave you have ever seen and on perfection too!
