There has been much talk and speculation about the re-release of the 1991 movie classic Point Break and with the unveiling of the first official trailer yesterday, it has certainly caused a stir. Fans will be pleased to see Bodhi and Johnny Utah return in the action packed trailer and we look set to see the film hit the big screen for Christmas 2015.
Although it feels a little weird not to see Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey and Patrick Swayze the trailer reveals that the re-released Point Break is a thrill ride packed with adrenaline pumping stunts and some impressive big wave surfing. Refreshingly, the directors and script writers have opted to expand the bank robbing plot, although instead of just getting their thrills through wave riding, Bodhi’s crew now enjoy base jumping, snowboarding, rock climbing, wingsuit flying and dirt biking.
Many famous surfers have been involved in the movie including Laird Hamilton, Makua Rothman, Bruce Irons and Sebastian Zietz and waves featured include Chopes and Jaws. This time round Johnny Utah is played by Luke Bracey (Home and Away) and Edgar Ramirez steps into Patrick Swayze’s shoes as Bodhi. The most surprising casting though has to be the choice of Ray Winstone who appears as Angelo Pappas, the role so well suited to Leeroy The Masochist AKA Gary Busey.
Internet forums have been awash with negative comments about the film and many think the script has become too far fetched and should have been left alone. We have included the trailer below this article and we would love to hear what you think about the Point Break remake – Do you think it should have been left as the cult movie the original has now become or is it about time it was brought into the 21st century, and will you be prepared to give it a chance when it is released in December?
