A photograph emerged earlier this week of Brad Domke, on what was claimed to be the biggest wave ever ridden on a Skimboard down in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. The fact that there was only one picture available, the web was awash with some people speculating that it was a hoax or that he hadn’t actually managed to ride out of the wave. Now we have a video to prove that Brad Domke most certainly did skimboard the biggest wave ever.
The footage was captured on Saturday July 5th 2014 down in Puerto Escondido as Brad towed into some monstrous waves breaking onto the beach. We regularly see images of Surfers tackling the giant waves in Mexico but this is the first time we have seen anyone Skimboarding such waves.
Considering his board is finless, Brad somehow manages to hold his line as he drops in and even has the audacity and confidence to stall his tiny little board allowing the chasing bomb to catch up and barrel over the top of him. Brad is left jumping for pure joy at take end of the wave and I can’t say I blame him.
In the video featured below, you will see Brad tackle the wave twice, one in slow mo and then again in real speed and it is only then you really appreciate the magnitude of the wave and the accomplishment of Brad. Let us know what is the biggest wave you have ever ridden and what other world class waves would you like to see Brad have a go at next?
