Regular readers may remember we recently mentioned that we were among a select few who were able to see the UK premier of Breaking Through at the Boardmasters festival earlier this month. This film from Jimmy Witson Productions is a must see and we tip it as one of the best surf films of 2014. Showcasing both amateur and pro riders from the British and Irish scene, the film is well edited and produced.
The movie features Surf from every coast around the UK and is a collection of work from Fionn Rogers, Tim Boydell, Mr B, Ashton Wadey and Danya Schwerty. Driven by a gritty soundtrack the film drops in and out of colour and black and white footage as the numerous UK riders score waves as good as the British Isles have to offer.
Surfers featured include Alan Stokes, Luke Dillon, Ben Skinner and Oli Adams as well as many other pro and unnamed riders as the movie switches from coast to coast and season to season. The film is set to be shown at the Bristol Film festival and then again in London before finally being released as a full length feature DVD later in the year.
This film not only shows off the raw beauty of the United Kingdom coastline but also a plethora of talented UK riders and with the soundtrack featuring bands such as Wheatus and The Martin Harley Band, there isn’t a lot more you could wish for. Keep an eye out for the general release of the DVD and to whet your appetite the official trailer for Breaking Through is attached below. Let us know if the trailer excites you and if recognise any of the featured Surfers?
