It has been announced that C J Hobgood is to hang up his competitive board shorts at the end of the 2015 season after 17 years of competing on the world championship tour. The 2001 world champion made the announcement after his first round appearance at the 2015 Fiji Pro, in which he finished in third place, and whilst sporting Kelly Slater’s number 11 jersey.
C J has decided that in his final year of competing on the global stage he would like to wear the jersey’s of some of his inspirational peers and competitive rivals. In an interview post heat, he made it quite clear that he never wants to put on a competitive jersey again!
You can see C J chatting to Ronnie Blakey about his decision, in the video below, courtesy of the WSL, and will probably agree that he seems pretty content with his decision. What do you think of C J’s decision to hang up the tour towel? Is it the right time and can you think of any other pro’s who you consider should also call it day?
