Although more at home throwing himself over the lip on massive waves and taking on solo paddling expeditions, Chris Bertish is heading off on a new challenge this weekend as he joins a team of Paddleboarders from Escape + Explore Travel for a SUP adventure in Botswana. The team set off on Sunday (15th of March) and will be paddling the Okavango River and enjoying a new SUP expedition tour being offered by Escape + Explore.
Chris is a big wave surfer, the holder of multiple world records and motivational and inspirational speaker who will lead the Paddling expedition with the help of Camilla Howard who is a gourmet chef and and adventure guide who will serve up fantastic camp fire feasts. They will also be joined with Andrew Harkness who is a Delta guide and will be incorporating traditional dug out canoes (called Morokos) into the trip.
Escape + Explore are a leading travel company who specialise in offering African Safaris with a difference, including micro light safaris, touring Africa in a Split Screen VW Ice cream van or a camel safari in the Samburu National Park. Further details of all of the unique tours and adventures offered can be seen here. The SUP Botswana trip will also include a stay at the One & Only Cape Town Hotel and a chance to practice paddling skills on the Breede River, three days paddling safari across the Delta with the nights sleeping on the local islands and to finish, a helicopter ride across the Delta and a stay at the Wilderness Safaris’s Seba Lodge.
We recently caught up with Chris following his attempt at the 24 hour Open Ocean SUP World Record and after facing horrendous ocean conditions he is probably looking forward to the more sedate challenge of the Escape + Explore Botswana Safari.
