Carissa Moore has seen her run of wins stopped in its tracks by the American Courtney Conlogue who has taken the win at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro in solid conditions. The win for Courtney now puts her second on the tour leaderboard behind Moore, with the American pair currently holding the top two positions. Both Moore and Conlogue were both gunning for the third Drug Aware win of their career, but it was Courtney who came out on top.
The conditions were just about perfect for the women’s closing rounds, with a gentle offshore breeze and a solid swell of at least double overhead. Moore had seen off Sally Fitzgibbons in a close semi-final heat and looked focused going into the final. Conlogue won her semi-final against Malia Manuel with impressive rides of 9.00 and 8.53. As the final got underway, there was a noticeable increase in size to the swell and Courtney started out the gate with a convincing 8.50 to put Carissa under pressure from the off.
Courtney maintained the pressure with a second wave of 6.67 before backing up the first score with a solid 8.43. Although Carissa fought hard, with the same wave count, she was left trailing Conlogue by nearly 4 points. So the Americans are dominating the top of the WSL Women’s Championship Tour Jeep Leaderboard, with Carissa nearly 9000 points clear of the injured Stephanie Gilmore in 3rd place. All eyes now turn to Rio de Janeiro and the Oi Rio Women’s Pro. Will Stephanie Gilmore be fit in time and will the Carissa Moore and Courtney Conlogue maintain their dominance? The WSL highlight reel for the final Women’s rounds is embedded below.
