It’s true to say, Surfing has become a major spectator sport and this is proven by the crowds that turn out and are prepared to sit for hours as competitors battle out the heats. The finals always pull in many hundreds of spectators beachside and for events on the ASP tour; tens of thousands tune in, to watch the live streaming globally. However we believe the competition promoters may have missed a trick and could boost their viewing figures even further by drafting in a few marine mammals, as seen at a Surfing competition in California this week.
There’s one creature on the globe that pulls in more admiration and adoration than any other, and that is the Dolphin. People, be they, young, old, male and female are always in awe of these magnificent animals and as someone who has been lucky enough to share a line up with Dolphins, I have to say, they can surf better than anyone I know. I bet the organizers of the Rincon Classic in Santa Barbara California couldn’t believe their luck when a pod of up to 200 Dolphins crashed the party and joined in with the Surfing – mid competition!
In the clip, featured below, even the competitor seems to have been so awestruck he looses the plot, almost stands up straight, and becomes engulfed by the lip as he watches the Dolphins surf alongside him. Now maybe, if the ASP promoters could organize a pod of Dolphins for each leg of the tour, ratings will go through the roof!
