Whilst the surfing world waits to see who will be crowned the World Champion at the Billabong Pipe Masters next month, we are more excited that the Approaching Lines Slyder Cup will be returning on December 6th for a third year at Lusty Glaze, Cornwall. For the uninitiated, The Slyder Cup presented by Reef is a competition that embraces finless wave riding and encompasses mat surfers, body surfers, bellyboarders, paipo rides and alaia riders.
The event is broken into four categories, paipo/bellyboard, bodysurf/handplane, surf mat/alaia and stand up finless board surfing, with the winner of each category going head to head in the final to be crowned the Slyder Cup Champion. The Slyder Cup is all about fun and the ‘Expression Session” will certainly entertain, when entrants get the opportunity to join in the ‘Run What You Brung’ event and attempt to surf anything of their choosing, as long as it is finless. Expect to see things like doors and tea trays in action!
The Shapers Shield competition will also be hotly contested as professional shapers and complete amateurs get the opportunity to showcase alternative finless surfcraft. Entry to The Slyder Cup is now open and is open to all, although places are limited so don’t hang about if you are keen to get involved. Even if you are not competing, The Slyder Cup promises a day of good vibes, good rides and good times. Full competition rules and board criteria can be found here.
