Stand Up Paddleboarding is constantly evolving, both in terms of board design and also in terms of riding. Paddlers are constant pushing boundaries and looking for new ways to ride their SUP and test the limits of the sport. One of the most deranged and nutty forms of Paddleboarding has been brought to our attention and it features Fletcher Burton, throwing himself wholeheartedly down South Silver Creek in California.
Fletcher, who is a champion surf kayaker and wave skier, took it upon himself to tackle the South Silver Creek on a Stand Up Paddleboard and I give him my ultimate respect for his efforts. The fast flowing and extremely fast moving set of rapids look a guaranteed way to break limbs and knock teeth out, but Fletcher threw himself (literally) into the challenge.
Wearing pads and helmet Nathan races down some sections and spends more time off the board on it, but hats off to him, especially when you see one section known as The Skyscraper, that he launches himself down. I am left wondering if an inflatable board might have been a better choice of equipment, but if I’m honest, you probably wouldn’t get me down there on anything!
Enjoy the bonkers clip below and let us know what you think of Fletchers’s brave efforts and do you think this form of extreme rapids SUPping has a future?
