Progress up at Surf Snowdonia is galloping along and the latest news we have received from the UK’s first inland surf lagoon is that the position of Head Coach has been filled and former British Champion, Jo Dennison has landed the job. Jo has a proven track record not only as top surfer but also as a surf instructor and has previously lead the British Junior Team to the ISA 2012 World Surfing Games and has spent 10 years working on the Surf Grom Junior development programme in Australia, North Africa and Europe.
As well as being a former British champ, Jo Dennison is also three times Welsh Champion and has represented Britain twice at the World Surfing Games, honing her skills on the nearby coast of Pembrokeshire. As a qualified Level 2 International Surfing Association surf coach, Jo will head up a team of 15 instructors to offer lessons in Surfing, Kayaking, Bodyboarding, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Open Water Swimming and Surf Yoga.
Speaking about landing the enviable job at Surf Snowdonia, Jo has said “What excites me most about Surf Snowdonia is the fact that it will make the sport of surfing so much more accessible. For the first time in history surfing won’t be restricted by proximity to a suitable coast or the lack of a swell. That means more people can get out there and enjoy the wonderful exhilaration of riding a wave.”
The UK’s first Wavegarden surfing lake is set to open in July 2015 and will offer a perfectly consistent wave that can be adjusted from 70cm to 2 metres and will peel for up to 150 metres. The Conwy Valley in North Wales will certainly be one of the hottest UK surf destinations and excitement is definitely building for the opening of the futuristic surfing facility, which will host competitions, international events and pro visits as well as giving the public a guaranteed quality wave that will pump every day!
