If you were asked to name a country with quality surf in it, chances are Sweden wouldn’t trip off your tongue. Not unless your name is Freddie Meadows and you had made the trip Valhalla Vágr and seen it with your very own eyes. The video featured below by Max Larsson and DamaSpirit proves that Sweden does indeed have waves, and it does indeed PUMP!
Quite where Valhalla Vágr is, we don’t know, but the grunting slab break is certainly not an apparition and is a wave that throws up mouth watering pits and whilst one minute look so appealing, the next second it also looks pretty shallow and heavy! The opening wave at 52 seconds, sent a shiver down my spine much like images of Shipsterns Bluff does!
In fact surfing in Sweden is surprisingly popular and there are quite a few surf spots dotted along the Baltic Sea coast and even some breaks near the capital city of Stockholm. Before you think about rushing over to Sweden to hunt down Valhalla Vágr make sure you pack some thick rubber as the average December sea temperature in Stockholm is a frigid 4.9ºC!
Check out the clip below and let us know if you have surfed in Sweden, in fact did you even know that Sweden was blessed with waves?
