An exciting and innovative new portable marine stereo has just been launched aiming squarely (but not exclusively) at the Stand Up Paddleboard market. The Fusion StereoActive is a fully waterproof stereo, designed to be used in the home as well as on the water. We were lucky enough to be invited to a pre launch event last month, where we got hand’s on with the StereoActive and have to tell you this stereo system is a paddlesport game changer.
Fusion Entertainment have a long established and proven track record when it comes to producing quality audio products for the marine industry and they now bring that experience to the paddlesport market. Yes, there are many waterproof speakers already on the market, but there are most definitely no products that come close to StereoActive.
Imagine heading out with a stereo system attached to your SUP, kayak, canoe or boat that can offer crystal clear and extremely punchy sound, whilst also guarding your phone, car keys and wallet. Well now you can with the StereoActive and the ingenious ActiveSafe, a fully waterproof compartment that fixes to the base of the stereo.
StereoActive can be attached to almost anything using the specially designed Puck-it Mount and a variety of specialised mounting solutions. Once the Puck is secured, the unit is simply placed on top of the Puck and fixed in place using a sliding lock. The ActiveSafe works in exactly the same way, meaning several safes could be locked on top of each other, before fitting the stereo.
With a waterproof rating of IP7 and designed to float, even if you were to accidently drop the stereo into the water, you will still be able to recover it. In fact during development the Fusion team weighed one down at a depth of a metre for 30 minutes and the system suffered no ill affects and continued to pump out sounds even whilst fully submerged!
As well as crystal clear AM/FM Radio provided through an internal antenna, and the facility to play MP3 tracks through a USB drive, StereoActive also allows Bluetooth streaming from your device, meaning you can lock your media player in the ActiveSafe and stream direct to the stereo. The USB port also allows direct streaming using a cable to Apple and Android phones when the stereo is back on dry land.
The enhanced Lithium Ion Battery takes 3 hours to fully charge but when full offers up to 20 hours of battery life and StereoActive can also be used as an emergency charger for your mobile phone. Fitted with 2 X 2.5” speakers and a Passive Radiator, StereoActive drives 20 watts of directional sound, which is not only crystal clear, but incredibly rich and if needed plenty loud enough to host a decent party.
The oversized scalloped buttons on the top of system have been designed to allow the user to be able to fully adjust the stereo with a simple tap of a paddle. The designers at Fusion have even thought about that next profile picture opportunity and have added a smooth mounting panel to the back of the system enabling the attachment of action cameras direct to UV resistant casing.
StereoActive is expected to launch to market in October 2016 and will retail at $299 (the UK price is anticipated to be in the region of around £270, although we have not had this confirmed at time of writing). The ActiveSafe is priced at $99 and both the safe and stereo will be available in 3 colours –Red, White and Blue. StereoActive comes with a 2-year warranty.
After spending an afternoon getting to grips with StereoActive we really do think that Fusion have created a top end stereo system that would be as suited to sitting on the worktop in the kitchen as the family enjoy breakfast, as it would be alongside the barbecue or hot tub in the middle of a party as it would be on the nose of your paddleboard cruising along in the sea. We tested it out in a pub garden alongside a busy road next to the Thames and the diminutive but rugged StereoActive was more than capable of drowning out the sounds of city life.
Full details and all specifications of the Fusion StereoActive and ActiveSafe can be found at the official website HERE and to see StereoActive in action we have embedded the launch video below. We are also pleased to announce we will be following up with a full in depth review of the StereoActive in the very near future.
