If I was to ask you to name a typical Surfers vehicle, I am pretty sure you would say an old Woody, a VW Transporter or maybe a Mazda Bongo, I don’t think a Volvo would be at the top of many peoples list. However, Olympic Windsurfer and World No. 1, Bryony Shaw has been putting the Volvo XC60 through it’s paces at some isolated Irish beaches and it has certainly made me sit up and pay attention.
In the video embedded below Bryony talks about her love of Windsurfing, the sense of freedom she enjoys and how good that feeling of having a secret spot to indulge your passion feels. The clip also shows Bryony, screaming full tilt across the bay at one sheltered spot she finds as well as enjoying a bit of beach break at another of her quiet gems.
What is apparent in the short edit is that the Volvo XC60 is more than capable of handling the demands of the worlds best female Windsurfer and the beaches, coves and bays of the Emerald Isle prove no match for the Volvo. OK, so you can’t shelter in the back whilst you get changed in a raging gale, but it is plenty big enough to transport all your kit, including boards and when the Surfing is done you still have a classy and practical motor for day to day family life.
With a starting price for a new XC60 at around £31 000 it will certainly be out of the range of many rusty T4 drivers, but then you are getting a lot of vehicle with a very high spec for your money. Feel free to enjoy the video below and for more information on the Volvo XC60 take a look at the Volvo website here. Let us know if you think the XC60 would make a great choice of Surf wagon?
