Sunday the 12th of April will see the first major event on the UK Paddleboarding calendar get underway, when the beautiful county of Devon hosts the 2015 Head of Dart SUP Challenge. An event for all, the Head of Dart sees hundreds of leisure paddlers lining up with serious race competitors to make their way down the 8.5 mile course.
The popular event will get underway at Totnes and wind its way down to Dartmouth, whilst providing a spectacular site for onlookers who have ample opportunity to line the River Dart and support the paddlers. The fastest paddleboarders on the day will be looking to complete the 8 mile course in around 1 hour 15 minutes, but for the majority the day will be all about the atmosphere, the views and the participation.
Places are still available for the 2015 Head of Dart SUP Challenge, and for anyone who is interested in taking part, entry applications must be completed by the 8th of April, further information and full details of entry can be found at www.headofdart.com. The event will be covered by Julia Louise Photography, who will be on hand to capture all the action as it unfurls through the Dart Valley.
The Head of Dart is now in its 45th year and has featured Paddleboarding as part of the event for the last 7, but as the sport of Paddleboarding grows in popularity, the Head of Dart is also expanding and for the first time, the SUP event is being held separately from the rowing. The event is sponsored by Starboard, Red Paddle Co and Dart Adventures. Good luck to all competitors and let us know if you have ever taken part in the Head of Dart or if you will be heading down for the first time this year? Don’t forget to get your entry in now as you cannot turn up and paddle on the day.
