When a skinny teenager paddled out at Jaws, slap bang in the middle of the Pe’ahi Challenge last month and was seen sharing waves and mingling with some of the worlds best known big wave surfers, the surfing world went nuts, wondering who he was and where he had come from. It turned out the plucky teenager was in fact Adam Amin, a 19 year old from Sidmouth on the south coast of the UK, a place not known for massive surf or wave chasing hellmen.
Adam was living the dream, a dream he has had of finding and surfing the perfect wave, which has currently taken him on a journey to the islands of Hawaii and on an adventure of a lifetime. What makes Adam’s endeavours at Jaws even more impressive is that he has only been surfing since the age of 14 and was there through sheer determination and belief, without the support of a rescue team or much of the essential safety equipment needed when riding 40 – 50ft waves.
There is now a Crowdfunder campaign running that has been organised by Adam’s friend Lewis Voss to raise £1000, to buy the safety equipment and supplies that Adam desperately needs to be able to keep chasing his dream. At the time of writing the campaign is nearly at the halfway stage and has secured the support of 18 backers. You can show your support for this young ripper from Devon by heading over to the official Crowdfunder page here, where you will also be able to read a personal account from Adam about he made it out to Jaws that morning and ended up catching a lift on a ski with Greg Long!
The video embedded below features highlights from the Pe’ahi Challenge, and shows the size of the waves the Sidmouth Slayer was chucking himself into, along with the likes of Albee Layer, Shane Dorian and Kai Lenny! Surf Report would like to wish every success to young Adam and well done for having the courage, determination and belief to follow your dreams.
