Over here in the UK, there isn’t a lot we can do to halt Donald Trump on his crusade to become the next U.S President, but we can stop him from ruining one of Ireland’s most reliable waves. Trump is planning to build a giant sea wall to protect his hotel and golf course at Doughmore Beach on the West Coast of County Clare and in the process will ultimately damage the local sand dune’s, which in turn will hammer the quality of the waves. Luckily Save The Waves have launched a campaign called #NatureTrumpsWalls, to stop the fluffy haired billionaire in his tracks and you can help by simply signing the petition.
Trump’s intended sea wall will be constructed from 200 000 tons of rock and will stand at 15 feet tall, covering a total of 2.8 kilometres, in an area that has been designated a Special Area Of Conservation. As well as potentially ruining the local waves, the wall will also restrict local beach users and negatively impact on the local ecology.
Over 51 000 people have already signed the petition but the Save The Waves coalition are looking to secure 75 000 signatures by the close of play, so every name counts. You can find out more about this campaign at Save The Waves HERE and can add your name to the petition by following THIS LINK. Feel free to let us know your thoughts on the controversial sea wall and Trump’s arrogance in believing he can build this structure at the cost of the local surf community.
