Last month we brought you news of Kai Lenny winning the Abu Dhabi 2014 All Star Grand Slam at the Wadi Surf Pool and added a video of the highlights of day 3. I’m not sure how many of you watched the video, but it was pretty long winded and included all the down time in between the Surfing. Luckily, we now have a condensed version that only shows the good bits and it is a lot more interesting to watch.
The clip may only be one and half minutes long but it is jam packed with all the action and shows the worlds best Paddleboarders in full swing and shredding up the amazing desert wave pool, and getting airborne on their SUP’s.
Organized by the Waterman League, the Abu Dhabi All Stars is one of the best events on the calendar, in my opinion, because of the controlled conditions. Unlike a regular open water competition where everyone is at the mercy of the random waves and set’s, in the perfect wave pool, everyone gets the same shape and size wave and it becomes more down to personal skill rather than a lucky wave.
Take a look at the fast moving video below and let us know if you prefer competitions in the sea or do you like the idea of the wave pool format and the controlled conditions and a level playing field for everyone?
