There’s a number of ways you can learn about the history of Bodyboarding and these include reading in-depth articles to watching videos explaining how it all started. Personally, we prefer the latter thanks to it being much easier and visually entertaining rather than reading long detailed insight.
The video below this article features Tom Morey, inventor of the Boogie Board, and he tells his story when Bodyboarding was stated as one of the most “overlooked sports”, although this video first landed on YouTube in 2008.
Morey has been responsible for a number of innovations in surfing with one of these being the Boogie Board in 1971, or known today as the Bodyboard.
Other achievements by Morey include engineering “the essence” of soft board technology used in manufacturing, launching the Tom Morey Invitational Nose Riding Championships back in 1965, and known for creating the first interchangeable fin system used in commercial products.
There’s a number of other inventions Morey is known for, but we’d love to hear your thoughts on this man in the comments and what he’s done for surfing. Take a look at the short video revealing the history of Bodyboarding from Morey’s perspective, then share a comment below.
