We have had a couple of questions from our followers regarding how you install a leash and a GoPro mount to a Bodyboard. This really isn’t as daunting as it may seem, sure you have to pierce your board, but by taking your time and referring to the instructional videos we have found below, you will be leashed to your board and ready to film in no time at all.
The first clip shows in quite some detail the unwrapping and fitting of an official GoPro mount (although the same technique can be used for any manufacturers Bodyboard mount), and takes you through what you can expect to find in the bag including different size plugs and the directional guide to ensure you fit the mount the right way round. It is very important to make sure that before you make any holes in the board you know the stringer configuration of the board and make sure your plug is of the correct depth.
In the second video we have included a clip that although is now a few years old, it features Jay Reale who was a huge name in the early days of the sport, and has everything you need to know about installing a leash. As in the first video Jay uses a screwdriver to make the hole for the leash and you can see that you don’t have to worry about being to gentle.
We have seen people put the hole in their boards using a battery drill and this works just as well as the screwdriver method. In fact the screwdriver tends to be one of the things you always have to hand nearby. There is no specialist knowledge or tools needed and both of these videos should give you enough information and fill you with enough confidence to tackle leash and GoPro fitting in the future.
