It is looking favourable for the Mens WCT Hurley Pro in California with conditions improving and a likely start today down at Lower Trestles. Tuesday saw the opening rounds of the Swatch Womens Pro event play out in perfect glassy conditions with the highest score of the day going to Coco Ho with a snaking nine point ride.
The organisers are keen to keep momentum with the event and are hoping to push on with the competition today with an expected 2-4ft swell and virtually no wind to hamper proceedings, the forecast shows a drop in swell over the weekend before increasing for what we hope will be an epic final in the early part of next week. The rock bottomed break at San Clemente will see the worlds best battle it out for a chance of taking the $100 000 winners cheque and we expect to see some hard fought heats even in round one. In particular we are salivating about seeing CJ Hobgood, Dion Atkinson and Nat Young in Heat 9 and also Heat 12 when JJ Florence will go head to head with Mitch Crews and Bede Durbidge.
As usual you can keep up to speed with all the news and results at the ASP World Tour website and the event will be streamed live around the globe and you can watch the Hurley Pro unfold here. You can even download a PDF file of the Rounds, showing the opening heats and allowing you to follow your favourite Surfers progression.
We would love to hear your predictions for the event and feel free to let us know what opening heats you are most looking forward to. With the ball firmly in Gabriel Medina’s court do you think the title is all but sewn up already this year or will the Brazillian crack under pressure? Let us know who you think is lurking in the shadows and still yet to shine on this years tour.
