We’ve all been guilty at some time or other of belittling or moaning about someone else in the water who is riding a craft different from our chosen mode of wave riding. Bodyboarders, Paddleboarders and Longboarders have all had more than there fair share of abuse over the years, but Shortboarders can be just as annoying and don’t get me started on the Goatboaters! At one of our local beaches even Kitesurfers cop a bit of stick as they scream through the middle of the waiting pack. However, we think there is one craft though, that if it catches on, will catch more abuse and dislike than any other, this is the Aquaskipper!
The Aquaskipper is a strange looking twin skid craft that is powered by the user bouncing up and down, which in turn drives the part tricycle, part scooter and part pogo stick across the surface of the water. The worrying thing about the Aquaskipper is that it can be used to catch waves!
Whilst it might be a great idea, and even possibly a bit of fun on a boating lake or at a family holiday camp, we don’t feel that these will be very well received at the local break. Imagine some loon, frantically bouncing through the middle of the pack to snag a wave, or even worse dropping in on you on one these!
We have attached a video below showing the Aquaskipper in action and being used to ride a wave. So next time you are out the back and sigh as you see someone with a board a little different to yours wandering down the beach, don’t moan, it could be worse, they could have an Aquaskipper!
