Jamie O’Brien is already making his mark on the Mike Stewart Invitational bodyboard competition, by taking the win in the stand up division on the very first day of the trials. During a dominant display in head high conditions, J.O.B managed to bag himself a couple of barrels, breezing his semi final heat before finishing four points clear of runner up Mack Crilley in the final.
Jamie’s inclusion in the Mike Stewart Invitational has certainly divided opinions amongst bodyboard and surf fans, but it is well documented that Jamie can pretty much surf any object he pleases and this win proves why he was selected by his peers to be a part of the event. Whether he will fair quite so well, when he takes to his bodyboard in the prone division, we will just have to wait and see.
Jamie certainly won’t be having it all his own way when he paddles out in his first round heat, as he will be going up against the Irish charger Shane Meehan, who is the only representative from the U.K and who is more than capable of putting together a convincing run through the stages. The full line up and heat rounds can be seen here. We would love to hear your thoughts on Jamie’s stand up win and inclusion in the prone division and please feel free to leave your messages of support for Shane below.
