Red Bull are well known for thinking outside the box when it comes to holding unique and different events, and these showcases often bring in huge crowds to see athletes at the top of their game competing in some very different circumstances. This was no different for the 3rd Red Bull Night Riders Surfing competition that went down at Jacksonville Beach in Florida last week in chilly and messy conditions.
The format is pretty simple, a group of surfers take it in turn to get towed into the waves and attempt to impress the judges with their best air or trick. Anyone who has had a crack at night surfing will know that it is very different to daylight surfing and relies a lot more on instinct and the feel of the wave beneath you.
Red Bull threw a good party and the event attracted spectators in their thousands who flocked to the flood lit beach to enjoy the nocturnal spectacle, that saw Tristan Thompson crowned the winner. Have you ever night surfed and did you make it down to Jacksonville Beach to see the Red Bull event?
