Jacob Romero seems to have a knack of being able to get so much more out of the wave than actually looks possible. Even on the smallest of waves he is able to launch himself way beyond the lip, and the invert he attempted in 2013 in Chile is one of the most jaw dropping things I witnessed all of last year.
The fact that he didn’t ride away from the attempt is irrelevant, the fact that he even tried it puts him out there on a pedestal as far as I’m concerned. For those who haven’t seen it, you will find it at the 54-second mark of the first video below. At the time it was estimated that the wave was in the region of 24ft and Jacob managed to boost another 6 feet out of the top, this then lead to a 30 foot freefall back into the flats. Check it out – I think you will be impressed.
The second video is the latest release from Jacob himself and is filmed and edited by Mike Kini. The clip is a mix of Jacob tearing it up in the Canaries and at his home breaks of Maui. Accompanied by a funky track by Kids of 88 called Hypno it shows Jacob pulling off a range of rib busting airs and flips and he is just as happy slashing the wave up drop knee, as he is prone.
Currently riding for No.6 keep an eye out for J-Rom who is most certainly going to be pushing the boundaries even further and taking his exciting style of riding to a new level.
