The first event of the 2016 Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB) World Tour gets underway next month and starts with the Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational from the 21st of February. The event will see a group of selected invitees compete against the 32 top riders on the APB leader board, the top 16 finishers on the Hawaiian tour and the top 8 riders from pre trials in February. One particular name on the invitee list stands out, and that is the surfer Jamie O’Brien.
Jamie is without doubt one of the best stand ups to ever ride Pipe and knows the wave inside out, but many people do not know that J.O.B cut his teeth on a bodyboard as a grom. Jamie even won a few comps in his youth and has previously entered other Pipe events on a bodyboard, finishing third in his heat in 2009 and loosing a fin in 2013. Other invitees include Kainoa McGee, Alistair Taylor and Spencer Skipper, with Shane Meehan on the alternate list and the only rider with a chance to represent the U.K at Pipe this year, full details can be seen at the APB website.
What do you think of Jamie’s inclusion at the Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational? Is there any chance J.O.B can progress through a couple of rounds, or is he taking the place of a bodyboarder you would like to see at the event?
