Hot off the back of his new Boardshort deal with Body Glove, Jamie O’Brien has had further good news this week as he has been awarded The Oakley Wave Of The Winter for an insanely deep tube ride at pipeline back in December. As well as gaining the bragging rights for being awarded the Wave of the Winter he also picks a nice fat cheque for $25 000 too.
The Oakley Wave Of The Winter was awarded by a judging panel made up of legends from the sport of surfing including Gerry Lopez and Ross Williams, who had the unenviable task of studying the hundreds of entries before awarding JOB the prize. In the end it was a hard choice for the judges who agonised over awarding the Wave Of The Winter to Jamie or Mason Ho, but it was JOB who won for a ride that had slightly more tube time than Masons entry.
Mason Ho didn’t go away empty handed though, he was awarded $10 000 for himself and a further $10 000 for a charity of his choosing, for The Clif Overall Performance Award after showing more courage, style, skill and commitment to the sport and community than any other surfer over the North Shore season.
The video attached shows Jamie O’Brien’s winning wave and the casual way he weaved his way to the winning cheque and also shows just how well Jamie knows the wave at pipeline. Do you think JOB deserved the Wave Of The Winter prize and are you impressed with his deep and casual barrel in the clip?
