We have recently reported on two Kickstarter projects that were intended for the Surf community, the Surfer Dude toy and the Off ‘n’ Up Wetsuit removal tool, both unfortunately fell at the wayside. The Surfer Dude is currently in an intellectual property dispute and the wetsuit removal tool failed to reach funding levels by a massive shortfall. Today we bring news of the latest Surf related Kickstarter and that is the Johnny On The Spot App, and this is a lot more likely to cut the mustard.
Created by Swansea Surfer Ben Martin, the Johnny On The Spot App is a surfer’s personal diary and is used to record details of all of your surf sessions. Ben came up with the concept after a particularly good session at his home break and thought that he must record the details that had made that day so perfect. By the time he returned home the relevant information he needed to document had been forgotten and potentially the next classic day could have been missed.
With the help of a group of whiz kid developers, Ben created an App that will capture all the conditions from that particular days surf and overlay this information over a photo that has been recorded by the surfer at his break. This information is then stored as a reference point for future surfs.
Ben is seeking a total of £1000 before the end of the Kickstarter Project on the 30th of March and at time of writing the currently amount pledged is £180. We think that this is a great idea and Ben’s reasonable funding request is definitely possible. If you have concerns about your favourite secret spot being revealed and blown out of the water, fear not as the Johnny On The Spot App is a personal tool and the information recorded is for the users eyes only.
With the minimum pledge set at just a £1 and sticker giveaways and Premium subscriptions available from just £5 we feel this is one Kickstarter project that is well worth backing and like the idea of the personal diary App. To read more about Ben’s inspiration and the App development or to make a pledge, head over to the official Kickstarter page here and take a look at the video we have embedded below. Ben is also promising to take to the waters of Swansea to catch a wave without a wetsuit on if he reaches the required amount – surely that is worth a punt?
