Not for the first time, Kelly Slater has broken his toes, but this shouldn’t hamper his chances of attending the Billabong Pipemasters early next month. News started appearing a couple of days ago that Kelly had hurt his foot whilst surfing Cloudbreaks, and Kelly himself confirmed he has broken two toes and sprained 3 or 4 toes on his left foot via his Instagram feed.
The damage was not caused by attempting to replicate his 540 aerial but because of the foam ball inside a wave he was riding, bouncing up and flipping the board into him. On his Instagram page, Kelly explains the accident hyper extended his toes backwards, which certainly sounds painful!
Kelly Slater previously suffered a broken boot back in 2003 whilst taking the win at the Billabong Pro at Teahupoo in Tahiti. This latest injury in Fiji, whilst no doubt will keep him out the water for a while, is not expected to mean he will miss the Pipemasters and the final event of this years Pro Tour that gets underway between the 8th and 20th of December.
Do you think that this injury will knock defending champion Kelly’s chances at the Pipemaster event and have you ever broken a bone whilst Surfing?
