Kelly Slater, whilst recovering from his broken foot and preparing for the 2014 Billabong Pipe Masters event has also been busy putting together a crack team to take his clothing brand Outerknown forward. The Outerknown clothing range is expected to hit shelves in the fall of 2015, and to ensure that the brand provides its core values of style, sustainability and travel, Kelly and his team have appointed some industry heavyweights.
Executive Board Manager, Julie Gilhart, as well as sitting on the board will be mentoring the designers and developing the Outerknown brand through her sales, design and production experience, gained during her time as New York fashion director at Barneys. Also heading up the brand alongside Kelly, is the Creative Director, John Moore, who is GQ’s Best New Menswear Designer.
To ensure the brand remains true to it’s desire for sustainable clothing, Shelley Gottschamer has been drafted in as Director of Supply Chain and Sustainability. Shelley’s role of sourcing sustainable materials will be helped by her experience gained whilst working for Levis Strauss and Patagonia.
Stella Ishii has been appointed as Sales Director and will be bringing Outerknown to the marketplace with her vast experience in launching companies into the public eye, such as Phillip Lim 3.1, Alexander Wang and The Row.
There is a very strong team now heading up Outerknown and shows the commitment by Kelly Slater to make sure the brand not only succeeds, but remains true to itself and provides clothing that is not only sustainable but has been sourced responsibly. Kelly himself has said “My team and I couldn’t be more excited by such a powerful pool of talent coming on board.”
