As if Kelly Slater wasn’t busy enough and didn’t have enough plates to keep spinning, he is now preparing to launch his own range of surfboards for April 2016 under the name Slater Designs. We were treated to a sneak peek of the Slater Designs logo on Kelly’s surfboard at the Pipe Masters last month, and the range of boards will be revealed to a select few at the Surf Expo in Florida later this week.
Kelly is already proving himself to be quite an entrepreneur and 2015 saw him launch a range of home furnishings in partnership with PBteen, his own Outerknown clothing company and what is undoubtedly the worlds best manmade wave at his semi secret surf lagoon. The Slater Designs surfboards are certain to prove popular, with the initial 3 models being shaped by Greg Webber and Daniel Thomson and will incorporate Firewire technology and their eco practices.
What do you think of the Slater Designs logo (apparently designed by Kelly himself) and would you consider buying and riding one of the the new boards from Kelly’s surfboard company? If they are good enough for an 11 times world champion they must be good enough for the average Joe, or do you think they will be an over expensive gimmick simply selling on the back of Kelly’s name?
