Since the demise of ThreeSixty Bodyboard magazine the UK and Ireland have been lacking a quality printed magazine to bring news, stories and pictures to the Bodyboarding fans of Great Britain. One magazine was produced last year, a zine called LiD, that offered loads of quality images of the British scene, backed up with some great articles, including an insight to tackling Pipe and an interview with Dave Winchester. For reasons unknown until today, we only saw one issue of LiD and have been left wanting more ever since.
It turns out the reason Issue 2 never made it off the press is because Editor Sam Buckle, funded the initial run out of his own pocket and unfortunately Sam’s pockets aren’t bottomless. However there is hope for the Bodyboarding community as Sam is attempting to get Issue 2 off the ground and is using Kickstarter to raise the capital through crowd funding.
Sam is seeking a total of £3000 before the close of play on the 12th of May, and at time of writing there are already 21 backers who have promised a total of £1279. For a pledge of £10, Sam is offering the investor a copy of Issue 2 delivered to their door (pretty reasonable as the first Issue retailed at £7.99) and for £35 you will get a magazine, sticker and limited edition T-Shirt. There are also opportunities for advert placements in the mag as well as the option for you and three pals to have a session at any Cornish beach documented by Sam and Matt Hawken.
To find out more about this project and to make a pledge then head over to Sam Buckle’s Kickstarter page here and make sure you view the video below to see a very special guest who is backing LiD. The Bodyboard fans of the UK badly need a printed magazine and this is the opportunity for the Sponge community to band together and help get Issue 2 off the ground. What have you got to lose? Most people would happily spend £10 to have a quality mag delivered to their door and that is exactly what Sam is asking, so step up and get behind him and help this project reach funding.
