There is no denying that the Skid Kids, the gang of lads from the Cronulla area of Sydney, altered the face of bodyboarding forever, when they bucked the system in the 1990’s and went against the establishment with their anarchic attitude and ballsy wave riding at Shark Island. To celebrate the influence the Skid Kids have had on the sport, a feature length documentary called Holding On is currently in production and now help is needed via a Kickstarter campaign to allow the team finalise the project.
Since it’s inception, Holding On has been entirely funded, directed and edited by Simon Bruncke and Trent Beattie, but the documentary is now at the Post Production stage and financial help is needed to complete the sound mixing, motion graphics, editing and colour grading. To take the Skid Kids story to a world stage the team are looking for financial backing of $20 000 (AUD), to be raised through Kickstarter by September 24th. At time of writing, the campaign has already secured just over $7000 with 25 days to go.
To be a part of this important project and to help document the true story of the likes of Nathan “Nugget” Purcell, Dave Ballard, Adam “Wingnut” Smith, Brett Young and Mark Fordham you can back the campaign with pledges starting at just $2 for a mention in the credits! The complete range of pledge/rewards can be seen in the picture below, but for just $30 you can get your hands on a limited edition Holding On DVD, or $50 will secure you a limited edition T-shirt.
The full list of rewards and all details regarding the project can be seen at the Holding On official Kickstarter page here, and to give you a taste of what to expect from the Holding On documentary we have embedded the official Kickstarter funding video below. What are you waiting for? Your name in the credits for just $2 shouldn’t be missed! Can you remember the Skid kids exploding onto the scene and how much of an impact did they have on your riding at the time?
