Laird Hamilton has been enjoying the delights of perfect Raglan on his Foil Board, whilst in New Zealand in preparation for The Ultimate Waterman Challenge next month. Laird who is an Ambassador for the competition made it all look very easy as he surfed above the face of the wave at the famous lefthand point break on his futuristic and slightly mind bending board.
As an Ambassador for The Ultimate waterman, Laird, who many already consider the ultimate waterman, is not only there to oversee and promote the event with select appearances but to offer inspiration and guidance to the elite athletes competing. The Ultimate Waterman competition is the first of it’s kind and will pitch 8 of the worlds best water athletes against each other in 6 different events to eventually crown one of them supreme.
The six event disciplines are longboard surfing, short board surfing, SUP surfing, endurance SUP paddling, tow in Surfing and Waka-ama* endurance paddling. The eight competitors are Danny Ching, Mark Visser, Manoa Drollet, Georges Cronsteadt, Kai Lenny, Connor Baxter, Kala Alexandra and Daniel Kereopa. There is currenty some confusion as to whether Kala Alexandra will be able to enter New Zealand and compete due to a previous conviction for assault that continues to haunt him to this day.
The event is expected to attract in the region of 50 million viewers globally and we will all be able to watch The Ultimate Waterman unfold between the 14th and 21st of March.
