Laird Hamilton has been at the forefront of many different Surfing trends including tow in Surfing and pioneering the foil board. His latest project that he’s throwing himself wholeheartedly into is the GolfBoard and knowing how popular Laird’s other innovations have been, expect to see one of these tearing up a green near you.
When I first saw the GolfBoard, I naively thought it was just a mode of transport to replace the humble golf buggy, and to be honest couldn’t see the point of it. But in true Hamilton style it turns out that you don’t just cruise down the fairway conserving calories, you steam along the fairway playing golf like a futuristic Polo player.
The video below starts with Laird enjoying a few waves on his Paddleboard, where he playfully slides his SUP thorough a series of slides and spins. After his morning paddle he makes his way to a spectacular golf course with beautiful oceanic views where he demonstrates the Hamilton way of playing golf, full on!
To see more information on the GolfBoard, and the story behind it’s conception take a look at official Surf The Earth website here. The innovative technology comes at a price though, the UK price is £2829 for the standard GolfBoard. If you like the idea of the StandUp Handlebar Version with Bag Mount, you can expect to pay around £3395. UK release was set for April 2014 so you may start seeing them on a course near you shortly.
There will be some that say the GolfBoard is the most exciting thing you will ever find on a golf course and others who will bemoan the blonde haired giant for scuffing their precious greens, but we would love to know your thoughts on the GolfBoard? Do you find it bizarre that Laird has involved himself with this, is he ready to hang up his wetsuit boots and enter his retirement stage? Do you think the GolfBoard is a good idea and do you fancy a round on wheels?
