Laird Hamilton is regarded as one of the finest all round Watermen in the world, seemingly able to ride anything he chooses. A keen surfer, windsurfer, water-skier and Paddleboarder he is credited as being one of the pioneers of tow surfing and foil boarding. Laird has many accolades to his name including windsurfing for 6 hours between Hawaiian Islands and taming Teahupo’o and Jaws being just a few.
It is no surprise then, that Laird doesn’t just ride a Paddleboard and gently cruise along the wave, he prefers to trick his way shoreward and makes the ride look so effortless. Riding the board backwards, stood on the nose with the fin out of the water or dropping in sideways is child’s play to a man like Laird.
We have placed a video below this post that shows Laird at play on his SUP and the first time I watched this I actually laughed at how ridiculously easy he makes it all look, whilst knowing how incredibly difficult it actually is.
Whilst not the huge waves that Laird is normally associated with, the head high waves at Hanalei Bay are a playground for him as he chucks his board about with ease. Enjoy the video below and feel free to share your thoughts on Lairds competence and accomplishments.
