Brotherly rivalry in Surfing is nothing new, there has been many famous sibling partnerships over the years including the Irons brothers, the Malloy family and Michael and Derek Ho. Not to be outdone, the sport of Paddleboarding also has a pair of brothers who have made a name for themselves and are pushing each other to the limit and these are the Salazar brothers from Brazil.
Leco Salazar was the Stand Up World Tour champion in 2012 and is known for his dominant riding and powerful turns and has been a big name in the sport for some time now. His younger brother Matheus Salazar however has been kicking around on the surfing scene for a while, even competing on the ASP tour in 2011, well it turns out he is pretty handy on a SUP as well.
There is nothing like a bit of sibling rivalry to drive each other to try harder or to push the limits and that competiveness is certainly paying off, as the brothers demonstrate in the video below. Both have a very similar style, driving hard out of the turns and putting in some impressive near vertical off the lips. When these boys are in the water together it’s hard to imagine anyone else getting a look in, as the two of them appear to dominate the line up.
