The dream of riding a Hoverboard has something I have carried with me, ever since I first watched Michael J Fox in Back to the Future II when I was a mere whippersnapper. It is not something I ever really believed would be possible, but now some clever chaps at Lexus have finally made that dream a reality, with the news that they have invented a liquid nitrogen powered Hoverboard.
The board has been revealed this week being trialled at a new skatepark in Spain and is able to ride on water and even perform rail slides, as a team of top skaters sessioned it for the first time. It doesn’t look particular intuitive as the skaters take to the futuristic board for the first time, and it looks quite bizarre as plumes of gas emit from the board, like a ferocious steam powered skateboard!
Apparently the liquid nitrogen has to be replenished every 20 minutes and it is this nitrogen that freezes an internal superconductive material within the Lexus Hoverboard, which fights against a hidden magnetic track built into the skatepark, creating the enough magnetic resistance to support the board and skater. A video of the Hoverboard being tested is embedded below and the dream of Hoverboard riding for the ordinary man has moved a little bit closer. Have you always dreamed of riding a Hoverboard and are you keen to see Lexus develop these into full production for the masses?
