As a Bodyboarding fan, the end to the 2013 season and the virtual collapse of the IBA was both frustrating and embarrassing for the sport. The formation of the APB and the 11th hour resurrection of the Pipe Challenge was a grateful reprieve and the Bodyboard community breathed a collective sigh of relief. It has however been a bit of a guessing game trying to keep up with events out in Hawaii over the last week.
As if Mike Stewart hasn’t already done enough for the sport, it seems as though he is single handedly keeping things on track. Whilst I know there are many others behind the scenes, the majority of sponsors for the Pipe Challenge are companies that have Mike’s involvement – Science, Gyroll and Viper and it is Mike’s websites that are doing the bulk of the promotion and keeping the fans updated.
It is with pleasure then that we have now heard that the final day’s competition will be broadcast as a live event webcast meaning that the fans will get to see some riding, if not, the best riding from this years challenge. It appears that a deal has been struck between Science Bodyboards and Surfline.com as it is their Live Surf Cam that features on the Science site at the moment.
So whilst the lack of information has been maddening this last week, at least we will be able to see the Pipe Challenge 2014 play out and according to Science Bodyboards UK, Mike Stewart is calling the final for Sunday evening (UK time). If any earlier we will update through our Facebook page.
