Tow in Surfing is not a new phenomenon and we have recently brought you articles on tow in Bodyboarding and Skimboarding, well it now seems that Windsurfers have decided to get in on the act too. Fresh off the back of his recent win in the Red Bull Storm Chase competition, Thomas Treversa and a group of local Windsurfers have hosted the first ever King Hogar Extreme Windsurf Event in The Canary Islands.
The commercial port of Las Palmas has seen the team construct a ramp in the inner harbour and then tow each other into it with a small inflatable boat, launching some pretty impressive tricks and flips. Whilst it looked a lot of fun for the competitors, and it was no doubt entertaining for the onlooking crowd, most of the trick attempts seemed to end up in the drink.
It is a pretty crazy concept, towing a wind powered craft across the water, into a kicker and then trying to get as much air as possible whilst pulling a trick, whilst avoiding digging the mast in the water, but Thomas and the local boys do have some success and surely it is just a matter of time before the sport explodes? The video highlights of the event are below and feel free to let us know what you think, do you think tow in Windsurfing has got a future and would you like to see it at lake or harbour near you?
