We’ve been hearing a lot of good things about a relatively new wetsuit company that is pushing the boundaries of wetsuit manufacturing and cold-water surfing. That company is Lunasurf and they are rapidly gaining a reputation for delivering high quality suits for every surfing scenario.
We thought we would take a look at their current range and have been checking out the Lunasurf website. The first thing that struck me was the huge range of suits that are available, everything from 2mm shorties to a hooded 6.4mm winter suit. Working in conjunction with Janga, there literally is a wetsuit for every possible scenario and for every season. Whether you want a hooded 4mm, a short armed 3.2mm or even a rashie they really do have it all.
I have to say the colours available are fantastic, if you like to blend in with the crowd there are some nice subtle black, blue and grey suits available, however if you like to be noticed and have a penchant for colour there is definitely a suit for you. The Janga suits in particular are a range that use every colour in the spectrum and there are some real eye catchers, the All Yellow Airfighter and the Neon Green stand out in particular. I have to be honest I prefer my rubber to be a little less conspicuous and think the Ink Blue or the Gun Metal Grey/Orange look rather fetching.
What does separate the Lunasurf crew from the crowd, is the fact that they relish the opportunity to throw themselves in icy waters to show off how good the suits really are! The website is packed with pictures and stories from trips to Iceland, Scotland and Canada to name a few destinations. Although we haven’t been able to try the suits ourselves looking at the guys floating around in ice flows and slotted in frigid looking barrels shows a reassuring confidence in the product.
The short summer suits start at just under £150 and the vests from £39.95. For the top of the range Hybrid 6.4mm you are looking at £339 but we reckon you could probably double your winter surfing time with one of those bad boys. The wetsuits are available for men and women and have a huge range of sizes. They also stock and supply hoods, boots, gloves as well as a range of leashes and tailpads.
Refreshingly, Lunasurf only show the gear they actually hold in stock, so you won’t pick the perfect suit only to find the last one sold a week ago. A company that is made up of Surfers, they know what they are talking about and promise to treat every customer as a V.I.P.
As yet we haven’t managed to get hands on with a Lunasurf wetsuit, but hope to be able to bring you a full hands on review in the future. Take a look at the video below in which Tim Nunn speaks about the book “NUMB” and head over to the Lunasurf website to have a look at what this progressive company has to offer.
