Ian Battrick is a surfer who hails from Jersey in The Channel Islands but is more at home in the kegs of Iceland and Indonesia. He is also co-founder of Lunasurf a company making and distributing wetsuits and ancillary equipment that is fast gaining a reputation for its excellent customer service and the quality of their rubber.
Although a lot has been said about Ian’s exploits to Iceland and Canada, and his surfing in extreme cold temperatures and acute isolation, having now spent a total of 7 months in Iceland and never spending 1 night sleeping inside, everyone needs a little warm water surf once in a while. It just so happens that Ian has been in touch with us at Surf-Report to notify us of a great barrel he scored and he wasn’t clad in a 6mm Lunasurf wetsuit!
The clip below shows Ian, getting slotted at Kandui Left in The Mentawais back in 2009 and as Ian explains it was a ride that he thought would have to be consigned to the memory bank. Ian was wearing a helmet-mounted camera, but unfortunately the battery had run out so he thought he had missed recording the perfect barrel. Luckily as Ian paddled to shore he was called over to a Charter boat where to his disbelief an Aussie onboard had captured the ride after all. How come that never happens to me?
Take a look at the ride below and for more information on Ian’s adventures and Lunasurf wetsuits head over to the Lunasurf site here.
