Have you ever heard of a Spindle Flip 540? No, neither had we until we received notification of the first one ever landed and documented by Hawaiian Matt Meola and boy are we impressed. The video of Matt pulling off the futuristic trick somewhere at home on the Island of Maui can be seen below this article, but be warned you will watch it and then watch it again!
The 6 minute video features Matt at play, busting air after air and proving he is no one trick pony. In fact it seems that Matt cannot ride a wave without throwing a tweaked air in or finishing with a flourishing 360 air. However, the Spindle Flip 540 is way beyond any air we have seen before and we are still not completely sure what he is doing! You don’t actually get to see the new trick until the end of the clip but it is well worth holding out for and to see the delight on Matt’s face too!
Enjoy the trick below and we would love to hear what you think about Mr Meola’s aerial talent and his new move, and will you be trying it out next time a ramp presents itself to you? How much further do you think the aerial game in surfing can progress?
